Dataset – BioEnergy Profiles

Description

Data and information includes three elements:

• Country profiles which present a summary of national biofuels policy and strategy including biofuels substitution targets and national policy and trend information. Sources are varied but referenced for each country. The profiles are continually reviewed and updated as new information becomes available.
  
• Biofuels calculator which allows you to explore the interrelationship between crop areas and biofuel yields for a variety of crops, yield parameters and countries. This calculator is based on a provisional database that remains to be fully validated. A final, fully tested, version of the calculator will be available in the Autumn of 2008. Datasets underpinning the calculator will also be available at that time.
  
• Case studies – these were developed by AEA technology for Defra.
  

Rationale

The information and data provided allow tracking of policy developments within the bioenergy sector of selected countries where biomass for energy programmes are expected to be important. Initially this focuses on the policies, crops and programmes leading to the production of liquid biofuels.

Update Frequency

Country profiles will be continually reviewed and updated in the light of new developments. The current version of the calculator is a prototype which will be finalised in September of 2008. Case studies will be added as they become available.
