National policy and trends in biofuels crop development
A high profile recent project involves Constran SA, a Brazilian energy company, which will build a plant to produce ethanol from sugar cane in central Ghana. 27,000 hectares of sugarcane will be used for the annual production of 150 million litres of ethanol for export to Sweden.
Ghana currently uses only about 16% of its arable land for farming.
Sugar cane, cassava, jatropha, oil palm and soya beans all potential crops.
