Argentina
Summary of national biofuels policy and strategy - updated 20th August
Biofuels substitution targets
Targets: a 5% substitution of biodiesel or ethanol by 2010
Date set: - Law implemented 2007.
Note: original biofuels law amended to provide additional incentives for domestic production.
National policy and trends in biofuels crop development
The initial biofuels law focused on biodiesel made from soybeans and ethanol made from corn and did not provide incentives for sugarcane growers and sugar producers. Recent amendments seek to redress this. Argentina currently exports almost 90% of its biodiesel production, most going to the USA. Annual exports currently running at the rate of 1 million tonnes a year.
