Background

National biodiversity profiles

This website provides contextual information on biodiversity issues within a set of selected countries. The countries have been chosen on the basis of established economic and political links between the UK and the rest of the world.

For selected countries a ‘Biodiversity profile’ is presented to provide context for the range of UK political and economic influences that may exist in relation to the biodiversity of the countries concerned. This information is presented as factual, not interpretative, information which covers a number of topics, namely:

  • Legal Instruments
  • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO)
  • Multi-Lateral Environmental Agreements (MEA)
  • Biodiversity Action Plan

Some datasets are complete for all countries of the world whilst others have only been completed for selected countries.

National Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs)

National Biodiversity Action plans form an important statement of national biodiversity and the actions planned to maintain and enhance this diversity. These documents vary in length and scope and, in their original format, it may be difficult to access subject specific information contained within a very large document.

These web pages will present national BAPs for selected countries in their original format, and also restructured to allow selected contents to be abstracted. This work is proceeding on a trial basis and content will be progressively updated.
